Where there is a will, there is a way.

George Herbert

A will is a legal document where you mainly determine your inheritors and the executor of your estate. In the absence of a will, your legal inheritors are determined by the Civil Code of Québec, who will have to settle the estate together or nominate an executor among them with limited powers.

Here are some common situations where drafting a will is crucial to your family’s safety:

  • If you have minor children, and especially if you own real estate property, the settlement of the estate in the absence of a will can be greatly complicated without a will;

  • If part of your legal beneficiaries are out of the country;

  • If there is conflict within the family;

  • If you are advancing in age, your family will need legal documents to be able to take better care of you, and to settle matters efficiently when the time comes to handle your estate.
